Monthly Reflection Journal Questions

Life moves so quickly that, without intentional reflection, weeks can feel like they pass in an instant. Monthly journaling allows you to consolidate what you’ve learned, and making it a habit can help you track your progress and set purposeful intentions.

Reflecting Back

As Einstein famously put it, “The reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”

Calendars offer a helpful way to track the passage of time, inviting us to pause and reflect at the end of each month.

This exercise is crafted to encourage deep reflection on the past month—allowing you to process events, reflect on your learnings, and create a record you can revisit in the future.

The exercise

Grab whatever you feel most comfortable with for jotting down notes, and explore the following questions:

  • List what you’re proud of accomplishing this month.
  • The best thing that happened this month was…
  • The biggest challenge this month was…
  • What do I need to let go of from this month?
  • What do I want to carry forward into the next month?
  • What focus or theme do I want for the upcoming month?

Looking Ahead

Consider setting up a recurring monthly reminder to dedicate focused time to this reflection exercise. Over time, you’ll build a valuable collection of monthly insights that can help you celebrate your accomplishments and inspire the actions you want to take in the months ahead.
